ODE Tools for Teachers Newsletter

Tools for Teachers is a regular e-newsletter to teachers, sent year-round, that provides timely announcements and information on licensure, scholarships, professional development and study opportunities, and award and recognition programs, as well as links to classroom resources and tools.

Your registration with Tools for Teachers allows ODE to send communications directly to you. Simply click on toolsforteachers@ode.state.oh.us, add your name on the subject line, hit "send" and your name and e-mail address will be added to our mailing list. If you cannot open the link, simply copy and paste toolsforteachers@ode.state.oh.us in a new e-mail message, enter your name in the subject line and hit send.

Kids' Zone: Create a Graph: Graphs and charts are great because they communicate information visually. For this reason, graphs are often used in newspapers, magazines and businesses around the world. Here you will find five different graphs and charts for you can create.

i-SAFE: Internet safety information and training: i-SAFE's education component provides students with dynamic, interactive, up-to-date e-Safety curriculum in the classroom, online and in the community. These prevention-oriented lessons employ peer-to-peer communication and cooperative learning activities to help students retain this valuable information. The Outreach component facilitates the extension of students’ newly acquired e-Safety knowledge beyond the classrooms and introduces the entire community about the need to be safe online.

Wired Kids: Internet Safety Organization: While a large portion of Wired Kids, Inc.'s work involves preventing and helping investigate cybercrimes and abuses, Wired Kids also has a softer side. WiredKids.org has many online safety games for younger children and information for children of all ages as well as helpful information for teachers, parents and law enforcement.

USA Today Education Resources: These resources, which are used in conjunction with USA TODAY, are designed to make teaching easier in two ways: by drawing relevant connections between what students are learning in your class and actual events, trends and circumstances in the world around them, and by helping you develop in students the literacy, problem-solving and higher-order thinking skills they need to thrive in school, careers and citizenship.

Teaching Tolerance: Teaching Tolerance's educational kits and subscriptions to its magazine are FREE to classroom teachers. Founded in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Teaching Tolerance is dedicated to reducing prejudice, improving inter group relations and supporting equitable school experiences for our nation's children.

ABC Teach: ABC Teach's aim is to be a user-friendly educational site that provides quality printable materials for immediate use by teachers, education majors, and parents.

Southern Regional Education Board: SREB is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works with 16 member states to improve public pre-K-12 and higher education. Founded by the region's governors and legislators in 1948, SREB was America's first interstate compact for education. Today it is the only regional education compact that works directly with state leaders, schools and educators to improve teaching, learning and student achievement at every level of education.

Alliance for Childhood: The Alliance works with other organizations to advocate for play for all children, both in school and out. It also promotes the profession of playwork. Playworkers support children’s play in parks and other settings without dominating or directing it.

High Schools That Work: High Schools That Work (HSTW) is an effort-based school improvement initiative founded on the conviction that most students can master rigorous academic and career/technical studies if school leaders and teachers create an environment that motivates students to make the effort to succeed. It is based on the simple belief that most students become "smarter" through effort and hard work. In this environment, more students will recognize that high school matters to their future, and more students will become independent learners able to set future educational and career goals and choose which courses to take to achieve those goals.

Brain POP: animated, curriculum-based content: Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, BrainPOP creates animated, curriculum-based content that engages students, supports educators, and bolsters achievement.

Super Teacher Ideas: Here's a huge collection of thousands of ideas, activities, lesson plans, tips, inspiration, and ideas for teachers. All of the teaching ideas here were submitted by teachers who believe in sharing their best lessons. It's a site for teachers, by teachers.

The Citation Machine: The Citation machine helps students and professional researchers to properly credit the information that they use. Its primary goal is to make it so easy for student researchers to cite their information sources.
